If you’ve ever wished for live traffic updates from your Porsche Communication Management system, your dreams are soon to become reality as, from September, all new Porsches will come with the ability to relay real-time traffic information.
All new vehicles with PCM 3.1 and the “online services” option (that is now available free of charge in Europe) will be able to connect to the new traffic service via a smartphone for no additional charge.
By simply downloading the Aha Radio app to your iPhone or Android device and connecting it to the PCM, live traffic updates will be displayed on the PCM screen in 14 European countries.
Porsche Pcm 3.1 Upgrade
The PCM 3.1 in Porsche vehicles is a very sophisticated device, similar in operation to a laptop or desktop computer. It is possible during normal operation for an internal PCM process to become “stuck” due to corrupt or unknown externally produced data. The PCM 3.1 handles this situation by rebooting to clear the issue. Porsche PCM Update Sirius XM Radio recently sent out refresh signal and it has caused major functional issues with the PCM (Center Touchscreen) affecting virtually all Porsche vehicles. If your Porsche PCM has started malfunctioning the Sirius XM update is likely the issue. The enhanced Porsche Communication Management (PCM) is your central control unit for all infotainment applications and is standard equipment in all models. The PCM features a high-resolution touch display with integrated proximity sensor which allows simple and convenient operation. Just had it happen today on my 981 Boxster with PCM 3.1 where it rebooted exactly at the two minute mark. Used the steps outlined in this video from May 20: SOLUTION: The steps provided: Press & Hold the INFO button for 10 seconds until you see the PCM rebooting. Wait for system to reset. Immediately after the reset, press CAR button. Repair of Porsche PCM 3.1 devices. Often with retention of purchased options codes and with update navigation to recent version.
While the current PCM traffic updates are processed using data from TMC and TMCpro, the new technology uses a much larger database comprised, in part, of GPS data from numerous mobile phones (hence the necessity for the Aha Radio app).
Collected and analysed by INRIX (a specialist technology firm), this data is relayed to the PCM 3.1 almost continuously, with near constant refreshes providing almost instant updates to the traffic situation on routes programmed into your navigation.
These results are clearly displayed on the PCM map, with green routes providing free flowing traffic, amber routes are stop-go and red routes are reserved for traffic jams.
The real-time nature of these traffic updates mean that the dynamic route calculation of the PCM 3.1 will be improved, minimising delays by avoiding traffic hotspots as they develop.
From 2016, Porsche Tequipment will offer a retrofit solution for vehicles fitted with PCM 3.1 and built after November 2012. If the “online services” option is already installed, the update will cost €232.05 (inc VAT).
For PCM 3.1s without “online services”, the retrofit will cost €351.05 (inc VAT) and will include the latest map data. To discuss your options, contact your local Porsche Centre.

Can anyone confirm if there's a later PCM3.1 version? I'm currently using v4.74. There's a few annoying things with it so i was hoping they may be fixed in a later version! _________________ Current: 991.1 GTS, 944 S2 1990 Previous: 997.2 C2S, Cayman 987.1

There was certainly a V4.76 at the tail end of 2017 and I suspect that may have been the final version (there comes a point where Porsche no longer supports 'legacy' products). Depending on warranty coverage (ie: is there an extended warranty in effect?) Porsche used to provide the update foc so long as there was a sound reason for doing so. A known issue with earlier versions that was fixed at V4.76 was for the PCM to occasionally, and randomly, switch-off and cycle through a restart/reboot routine. In my experience, the OPC would take that explanation as justification for a foc update. (You probably know but this is to do with firmware updates and has nothing to do with mapping, where separate updates may be available but nearly always at some cost!). James
